「 シール帳、にせもののまち 」

お気に入りのモチーフを画面上でコレクションするように制作する私たちの作品を紹介するとき、遊び心から「シール帳のようだ」と形容したくなることがある。

そう考えてみると、シールの平面的でハリボテのような性質にも、次第に自分たちの作品を重ね合わせるようになった。私たち二人は、ともに郊外に居住しているという共通点を持ち、その土地に見られる記号的で均一化された風景や、観光地に対するツーリスト的な憧憬を内面化しながら制作を行っている。

「シール」「にせもの」「まち」という三つの言葉のレンズを通して作品を鑑賞していただくことで、画面に散りばめられたモチーフや風景の関係性が立ち上がり、多様な解釈が生まれることを期待して、本展のタイトルを名付けた。

When introducing our work—which is created by collecting favorite motifs across the picture plane—we sometimes playfully describe it as being "like a sticker album."

Thinking along these lines, we gradually came to see our own works reflected in the flat, makeshift quality of stickers themselves. We both share the experience of living in suburban areas, and our practices are informed by the standardized, sign-like landscapes found there, as well as by a tourist's longing for places beyond the everyday.

The exhibition title, Sticker Album, Counterfeit Town, was conceived in the hope that viewing the works through the three lenses of "stickers," "counterfeits," and "towns" will reveal new relationships among the scattered motifs and landscapes across each image, opening the works to a range of interpretations.
